JK Rowling fires at Scottish government

A new Scottish law allows gender reassignment by self-attribution. Writer JK Rowling accuses Prime Minister Sturgeon of destroying women’s rights and expresses solidarity with counter-protesters.
‘Harry Potter’ author Joanne K. Rowling has once again caused a stir in the debate over transgender rights. “No to self-identification,” the author wrote on Twitter. It is an amendment to the law, according to which transgender people in Scotland can change their gender listing without a medical report. The application period should also be considerably shortened for this.
In the past, Rowling has often made statements criticizing transgender people and their supporters as hostile to transgender people. Transgenders or transgenders are people who do not belong to the gender they were given at birth.
Rowling published a photo of herself with her statement expressing her solidarity with protesters in front of the Scottish Parliament. She is wearing a T-shirt that describes Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon as a “destroyer of women’s rights”. The word “women” is cut off in the photo Rowling shared, but the same shirt motif with this text can be found in other photos of demonstrations.
Death threats from activists
Last year, Rowling said she received death threats from transgender activists after sharing an ironic comment about “menstruating people” on Twitter.
Rowling first came under fire in June 2020 for a series of tweets supporting anti-transgender views. While she denied that her views on feminism are anti-trans, she reiterated her controversial views in a lengthy essay she published on her website. “Harry Potter” stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint then distanced themselves from her.
