For him it was love at first sight, she shouldn’t have been quite sure: but now former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are celebrating their 10-year bond. The 61-year-old wonders why time hasn’t left a mark with “Miche” and with him it has.
Former US President Barack Obama and his First Lady Michelle have been married for three decades. For their 30th wedding anniversary on October 3, both shared touching Instagram posts and new photos that show them a very personal side.
“Miche, I’m not sure why you look exactly the same after 30 years and I don’t,” the 61-year-old wrote in his post. “But I do know that I won the lottery that day and I couldn’t have asked for a better life partner. Happy birthday, honey!’ In addition, the former US president shares a holiday photo of the couple, which shows the two in a casual look with sunglasses for a mountain decor and a photo of their wedding. Still very much in love: in another photo, the two painted their first names in the sand and surrounded them with a heart.
Michelle Obama spoke equally emotional words to her husband: “Congratulations on the man I love. The past 30 years have been an adventure and I am grateful to have you by my side. To a lifetime together. I love you @ Barack Obama!” The 58-year-old also shared a holiday snap showing the two barefoot on the beach, another wedding photo and the photo of the heart in the sand.
She was his mentor at a law firm
Barack and Michelle Obama met in 1989 at a Chicago law firm, where the then 25-year-old mentored the then 28-year-old Harvard graduate. Although it is said that it was love at first sight for him, she was skeptical at first and is said to have rejected his romantic advances.
But one thing led to another and the two got engaged in 1991 after a two-year relationship. The wedding followed in 1992 in Chicago, and six years later, the couple’s first daughter, Malia, was born on July 4, America’s Independence Day. Daughter Sasha followed in 2001.
After Barack Obama’s election as the 44th US president, the family of four moved to the White House in 2009. Since leaving in 2017, the Obamas have signed a multi-year contract with Netflix, among others, and they take care of charities.
