Since the violent death of Mahsa Amini, more and more stars show solidarity with women in Iran. To make a statement, actress Sila Sahin-Radlinger also parted ways with her long mane in front of the camera.

More and more stars show solidarity with the women and men who are currently taking to the streets in Iran for the freedom rights of the female population. Turkish-born German actress Sila Sahin-Radlinger has now joined other stars like Juliette Binoche in cutting her hair for the camera. She shared the video on Instagram.

However, the focus is not only on Sahin-Radlinger’s hair, but also on the slogan that is in the background. “Woman Life Freedom Jin Jiyan Azadî” is written on a piece of white paper, which in German means “woman, life, freedom”. This saying has been the slogan of the Kurdish freedom movement for years.

A few weeks ago, 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini (known by her Kurdish name as Jîna Amini) died after being taken into custody by the country’s vice squad. She was arrested for allegedly wearing her hijab incorrectly. Three days later, she succumbed to severe head injuries in hospital. Nobody knows exactly what happened. However, human rights activists suspect that Amini was severely mistreated during her detention.

After Amini’s death, unrest broke out in Iran. Dozens of people take to the streets to protest against the misogynistic laws that apply there. Several human rights organizations have already reported several deaths. However, little information comes to the rest of the world. In Iran, the internet was largely turned off at the start of the protests.

Stars in recent days have made it their job to draw attention to the plight of the people of Iran. French actresses like Binoche, for example, showed solidarity by cutting locks of hair in an Instagram video. The core of Iran’s protests includes men and women cutting their hair on the street. Celebrities like Bella Hadid and Jessica Chastain have already shared educational posts on their Instagram channels.
