Wake of grandchildren
Now Harry can also wear a uniform

At the procession in honor of the late Queen in London, it was visible to everyone: Prince Harry is only playing second fiddle in the British royal family. After all, he was not allowed to walk behind the coffin in uniform, but only in a suit. But that should now change.
Queen Elizabeth II’s eight grandchildren will watch over their grandmother’s coffin for 15 minutes on Saturday night. Prince Harry will also wear his military uniform. Palace officials have changed their minds, The Mirror reports. The British news agency PA, on the other hand, says it was King Charles III’s express wish that his two sons, William and Harry, appear in uniform.
Since his retirement as senior royal in 2020, Harry is no longer allowed to wear the uniform at public functions of the British Royal Family. He walked behind the Queen’s coffin in a mourning suit during the procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday. He also wore a suit to Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.
At the wake, Prince William will be at the head of the coffin, while Harry will be at the foot, PA reports. The Queen’s remaining granddaughters and grandsons would wear formal black suits and dresses, respectively. The children of Queen’s daughter Princess Anne, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, are said to be on Williams’ side. Next to Harry are Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. The Queen’s youngest grandsons, Lady Louise and Viscount Severn, Prince Edward’s children, stand in the center of the coffin.
The grandchildren would love to pay their respects to the late Queen. Already on Friday evening Charles III. and his three siblings held a 15-minute vigil at Westminster Hall of the British Parliament.
Memories of the Queen
Prince Harry has been on two frontline missions in Afghanistan. For a joint photo with his ‘Granny’, he wrote touching parting words for her on Monday on the website ‘Archwell.com’, which he manages with his wife Duchess Meghan.
Harry wrote about his special memories of a military parade in 2006, when he was officially appointed an officer in the British army in the presence of the Queen. It was his “first meeting” with the Queen as “my commander in chief,” Harry said. He was probably referring to the famous moment when she made him grin and blush as she faced the cadets.
William cancels trip to New York
Meanwhile, Harry’s brother William canceled a planned trip to New York, according to People magazine. The “Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit” will start in the American metropolis on September 21, an environmental summit that is organized, among others, by one of the charities of the 40-year-old.
The Queen will be buried on Monday. Just seven days later, on September 26, the mourning period for members of the royal family ends. During this period, the Royals’ other activities take a break.
Protecting the environment is particularly important to Prince William. Together with naturalist David Attenborough, he created the Earthshot Prize in 2020. This year’s awards ceremony will take place in December 2022 in Boston. The current event in New York, on the other hand, is a forum that brings together last year’s winners with prominent guests such as Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett or Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is acting as patron of the event.
