Every year, devotees of Our Lady of Luján take part in one of the country’s most popular pilgrimages. As a sign of faith, hope and love, they walk almost 60 kilometers. This Saturday, many parishioners began the event of the Catholic religion, participating in the various Masses that will be held throughout the weekend. An online broadcast will be conducted for those unable to attend.

The 48th Youth Pilgrimage to Luján started at 8am from the Sanctuary of San Cayetano de Liniers is located in Cuzco 150. Based on last year’s intentions, it was decided to hold the event under the motto “Mother, look at us tenderly, let us unite as a people”.

From there, around 10 a.m., the pilgrimage image of the Virgin of Luján, blessed by Pope Francis on World Youth Day 2013, left and visited the whole country. Walk through the streets accompanied by pilgrims until you reach the Shrine of Our Lady of Luján.

Due to the scale of the pilgrimage, preparations began weeks ago and in recent days there has been increased coordination of volunteers and health posts with health workers, helping believers who may be inconvenienced. In addition, the Diocese of Morón, responsible for the transfer, worked to define and order the transfer.

In addition to the drinking stations, there is also an emergency service of 40 ambulances working with hospitals near the communities affected by the pilgrimage.

Although fairs are held throughout the weekend, Cardinal Mario Aurelio Poli, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, will preside over the traditional Sunday Mass at 7 a.m. in Plaza Belgrano, in front of the Basilica of Luján.

As part of the suggestions promoted by the organizers, the faithful were asked to light a small candle at this midnight. The goal is to “enlighten everyone’s intentions” and say an Hail Mary.

In return, two solidarity campaigns were proposed. One is to print out a picture of a missing person to help find and ask about it, and the other is to bring non-perishable food to donate to Caritas.

On the other hand, and that for more than 11 years, during the pilgrimage the sacrament of baptism is administered all believers who are on the path of preparation to receive the sacraments of Christian initiation or about to begin.

Those interested should register at the baptismal tent, and the baptismal ceremony will be held next to the Buenos Aires seminary post at the intersection of routes #7 and #6 under the bridge.

First-time pilgrims are advised to start the trek at dawn, wear comfortable shoes, take personal hygiene items, hydration, cotton socks and plasters.
