The Creed 3 trailer is almost too shredded for words

The first Beliefs movie was the kind of movie that made you want to run around the whole damn world. It was a rare franchise revival that told its own story — and an incredibly resonating, cheering one, too. It followed young Adonis Creed, son of late Rocky Balboa nemesis Apollo Creed, as he went from maladjusted youth to Rocky apprentice to self-contained heavyweight champion. It is better not to talk about the second film. But the third? Our first look at the latest sequel looks like a great comeback.

In Creed 3Michael B. Jordan steps back into the ring, as well as the director’s chair, for what appears to be a more personal story than the previous film, which focused on pitting Donnie Creed (Michael B. Jordan) against Rocky Balboa’s son (Sylvester). Stallone) rival Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), the Soviet super boxer who infamously murdered Creed’s father, Apollo, in the ring.

Creed 3 focuses more on Adonis, with Rocky nowhere to be seen. Jonathan Majors plays Anderson Dame, a childhood friend of Creed who shared his rough upbringing, but without the golden parachute of boxing kings to save him. The trailer puts the two on a collision course as Adonis’s attempts to welcome Anderson into his life are met with hostility, and the only place left to sort things out is the ring.

The trailer is both a great sale for the film and a hell of a promo for the great Creed Dame fight. Jordan and Majors are incredibly fragmented – and both possess a charisma at least as great as their traps. (This makes them… thirsty. See?) It’s also, ironically, a premise that Jordan’s other major role, but this time Majors is Jordan’s Black Panther’s Killmonger, a ghost from the past ready to take what’s his. I can’t wait to see them fight it out.

Creed 3 will premiere on March 3, 2023.
