He wouldn’t be the first actor in the White House: In recent months, Dwayne Johnson has been linked with a candidacy in the US presidential election. The ex-wrestler is now putting such ambitions on hold – at least for now.
Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson says he does not want to run for president for the time being. “That’s off the table,” the actor and former wrestler said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. “I love our country and everyone in it. And I also love being a father,” said the 50-year-old.
During the “critical time” in his daughters’ lives, the most important thing for him is to be there for them. He remembers being busy and traveling a lot when his oldest daughter was growing up. “And that’s what the presidency would do,” he continued. “So my top priority is my daughters.”
Johnson shared the interview clip on his Instagram account. He was approached by “the most influential politicians” from both major parties to run in the election in two years’ time, he wrote. “It’s humbling, grateful and inspiring to even have these conversations because I’m not a politician and never aspired to be one.” But he was “patriot through and through”.
In the last US presidential election, Johnson supported Democrat and eventual winner Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris. Johnson said he had never publicly supported a candidate before.
Johnson, nicknamed “The Rock” during his wrestling career, has a 21-year-old daughter from his first marriage to film producer Dany Garcia. The marriage was divorced in 2008. In 2019, Johnson married singer Lauren Hashian. The couple has two daughters, ages six and four.
