At least 53 migrants died and 20 were rescued after the boat they were traveling in sank off the coast of Syria, Lebanon’s transport minister said on Friday.

Ali Hamieh said more than 100 people, mostly Lebanese and Syrians, were on board the small boat, which capsized in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the Syrian city of Tartus. About 30 migrants would be missing.
