Prince Harry travels to Düsseldorf to promote his sporting event. In the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, the son of Prince Charles cannot stop jubilant. The Rhine metropolis is “brilliant and full of wonderful people,” says the 37-year-old.
Prince Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan visited Düsseldorf. The Invictus Games, the Prince Harry-initiated Paralympic sporting event, will take place there in 2023. After the couple signed the golden book in the town hall, an appointment followed in the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
The Duke of Sussex said in a speech he was drawn to the “vibrant atmosphere of the city,” the BBC reports. He also described Düsseldorf as “brilliant and full of wonderful people”. From what he saw today: “I have a good idea of how we are going to bring the theme of these Games – ‘a home for respect’ – to life.” Harry continues: “In my opinion, showing respect and appreciation is just as important as experiencing respect and appreciation. That is the spirit we bring to Düsseldorf.”
At the town hall of Düsseldorf, the 37-year-old already expressed his anticipation of the event in a speech that he started with a few words of welcome in German: “I can hardly wait to hear the cheers of the crowd’s enthusiasm, the adrenaline into the competition spirit and laugh or even cry happy tears as we see lives changed before our very eyes.”

Moreover, according to RTL.de, the prince joked: “I heard that the beer is better here than in Cologne. Is that true?” he asked those present. “We need to find out. What better reason than this hot day,” he added. According to an Instagram post, the Sussexes then met with athletes, their families and volunteers who will support the Invictus Games at the stadium.
Harry and Meghan, who moved to the United States in 2020, have a tight schedule on their short trip to Europe: After their visit to Düsseldorf, they travel back to the United Kingdom: The WellChild Awards take place in London on Thursday. It will be the couple’s first visit to the royal house since Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations in June.
