Former US President Obama is not only blessed with political know-how, but also with a sonorous voice – and this circumstance now brings him an unexpected honour. The 61-year-old can look forward to an Emmy for best narrator.
Former US President Barack Obama has won an Emmy for Best Narrator. The 61-year-old received the coveted American television award for his performance in the Netflix documentary series “Our Great National Parks”. This was announced by the American Television Academy. In the documentary, Obama describes some of the most spectacular national parks in the world.
The most important Emmys will not be awarded until September 13 during a gala. However, smaller prizes are awarded in advance, such as those for the best storyteller. Obama isn’t the first US president to win an Emmy: Dwight D. Eisenhower also won the television award in 1956; for its use and promotion of television, which was relatively new at the time.
For Obama, it’s not the entertainment industry’s first prize. He had previously won two Grammys – for the audio versions of his autobiographical books The Audacity of Hope – and Dreams from My Father, which translates as “An American Dream. The Story of My Family.”
After his departure from the White House in 2017, Obama also founded a production company with his wife Michelle, which landed a lucrative contract with the streaming service Netflix. The first documentary “American Factory” won an Oscar and an Emmy – but the awards went to the filmmakers and not directly to the Obamas themselves.
