The range of university education in Germany is extraordinarily wide and varied. So how can international students find out which university and which course is best for them? They can get advice on My GUIDE, a new free website run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
What is My GUIDE?
My GUIDE allows international students to discover the courses at German universities that suit them. Working on the basis of the person’s personal profile, My GUIDE compares more than 20,000 university courses to produce a targeted selection; this is also possible for postgraduate courses. The user’s qualifications are compared to the respective admission requirements for different programs. If a course stands out, the relevant university can be contacted directly from My GUIDE.
How does My GUIDE work?
Three introductory questions on the interests of the subject, the intended degree and the preferred language allow a first selection. After entering their own qualifications, users can determine which college courses they are eligible for. Additional filtering options allow you to further refine the search. Registering a personal account means you can pause a search at any time and resume it later. My GUIDE also includes a form that allows you to submit a personal request to a selected university. This allows interested parties to clarify questions and initiate a concrete request directly with the university.
What does My GUIDE offer?
All study program details have been authorized by the universities and are regularly updated by them. My GUIDE is provided by DAAD, the world’s largest funding agency for international student and researcher exchange. Its expertise in this field and its worldwide network of regional offices and information centers also enable the DAAD to advise prospective students directly in their home country and to use the digital assets of My GUIDE. This makes it possible to quickly and comprehensively determine the appropriate degree course and to clarify other questions, for example on the necessary forms and visas or funding options and scholarships.
