At the Cannes Film Festival, “Triangle of Sadness” divided opinion, but won the Palme d’Or for Best Picture. The satire with guaranteed disgust is coming to our cinemas soon. ntv.de exclusively presents the German trailer.
When “Triangle of Sadness” was presented to the public and the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in May, opinions were divided. While some celebrate the tragicomic work, the explicit vomiting scenes in particular demand a lot from others. Nevertheless, the bitter satire of the Swede Ruben Östlund may eventually become a success and win the Palme d’Or.
For Östlund, who has already caused a furore as a director, screenwriter and producer with films such as “Force Majeure” and “The Square”, it was not the first prize. In his home country, he has received several Guldbagge Awards in the past and received European film awards as well as nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
“Triangle of Sadness” made headlines again in late August with the sad news that South African actress Charlbi Dean Kriek has passed away at the age of 32, making this her last film.
Super rich at the limit
And that’s what it’s all about: Model Carl (Harris Dickinson) and his colleague Yaya (Charlbi Dean Kriek) are a couple, but their relationship is in serious trouble. This is partly due to the fact that Yaya is much more successful as a friend, whom she always likes to rub his beautiful nose.
For Yaya and Carl, the relaxation will soon be over.

When the two are invited on a cruise on a $250 million ship in their role as influencers, the situation between them may just relax a bit thanks to luxury, champagne and caviar. Many other special guys join this journey, including capitalist Russian Dimitry, a software and app developer, arms manufacturers Winston and Clementine, and more extremely wealthy older whites.
capitalism to nausea
Captain Smith (Woody Harrelson), himself a proponent of communism and socialism, has a nervous breakdown and locks himself in his cabin with copious amounts of alcohol. The ambitious chief stewardess Paula (Vicki Berlin) therefore has to deal with the spoiled guests and their absurd wishes for the time being.
A strong storm has just risen, which brings the captain back on deck. Despite the expected heavy seas, he insists on a lavish meal with his super-rich passengers. It comes as it should, soon they are spitting the once expensive stomach contents in all directions. When a group of Somali pirates tried to hijack the ship the next morning, chaos ensued.
The satire “Triangle of Sadness”, in which Iris Berben can also be seen in a supporting role, will be shown in our cinemas from 13 October. The accompanying German trailer is presented exclusively by ntv.de.
