Russian pop icon Alla Pugacheva has long held back with loud criticism of the war. However, over the weekend, she makes an Instagram post in which she no longer hides her attitude. Longtime rocker Udo Lindenberg jumps on the side of his former duet partner.
Singer Udo Lindenberg has shown solidarity with the well-known Russian pop singer Alla Pugacheva and her criticism of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. He posted a photo of himself on his Facebook page, writing that his “longtime friend and colleague” was severely critical of “Putin’s criminal war against Ukraine”.
The panic rocker added a quote from the song “Why Are Wars There For”, which he says he has already sung in German and Russian together with Pugacheva in Moscow and St. Petersburg: “They face each other and can become friends. but before they get to know each other, they shoot each other. I think it’s so crazy, why does it have to be like this”.
Lindenberg and Pugacheva have been linked for many years. In 1988, in the middle of the Cold War, they recorded the first joint album (“Lieder statt Briefe”) by a West German and a Soviet artist. They also performed together in the 1980s and had successful tours in the Soviet Union, Germany and Switzerland.

Pugacheva complained on Instagram on Sunday that Russian soldiers were dying for “illusory purposes” while Russia was being banned internationally at the same time. She avoided the word ‘war’, which is banned in Russia in connection with the invasion of Ukraine. The words of the 73-year-old, who is still a star in her homeland, found wide resonance.
However, the Russian state media omitted their criticism of the war in their coverage, reporting only on their demand to be labeled a “foreign agent” like her husband – a stigma in Russia. With this she expressed her solidarity with her husband Maxim Galkin.
The well-known comedian and presenter has been living in exile in Israel for several months after he criticized the Russian attack on Ukraine. Last week, the Moscow Ministry of Justice blacklisted him as a ‘foreign agent’.
