David Harbour, known for his role as affable Police Chief Jim Hopper in Weird stuff and the cranky monster slayer in the 2019 Hellboy reboot, has finally found his next big role: a no-nonsense, name-taking version of Santa Claus.

In the first trailer for Violent night‘s black christmas comedy action movie Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters director Tommy Wirkola, a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family’s property on Christmas Eve, hoping to make off with $300 million. Unfortunately for them, they first have to pass through Harbour’s Saint Nick, which is surprisingly a lot less cheerful and murderous than most people would expect.

The movie is essentially die hard, except John McClane has magical powers related to global toy delivery rather than the ability to navigate air ducts and crawl through broken glass. It certainly follows in the tried-and-true tradition of action thrillers that put seemingly good-natured everyone in perilous, high-stakes scenarios, but this time around, it’s, you know, the living embodiment of revelry and merriment.

Violent night hits theaters on December 2.
