Criterion Channel is bringing the best 80s horror movies to streaming in October

Criterion Channel kicks off the Halloween season with an avalanche of great horror movies as part of its ’80s horror series. The lineup arrives October 1 and features classics from around the world and under-the-radar gems. The big win? near darka movie that is notoriously difficult to stream.

near dark is a 1987 horror-action vampire film from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The hurt locker). Despite this cult classic starring Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, and coming from an acclaimed American action director, it has been rarely available on streaming platforms for some reason. The series also includes another vampire classic in Tony Scott’s The hungerwho will join the lineup on November 1.

In addition to those vampire movies, the series also includes movies like John Carpenter’s prince of darknessabout a group of college students who discover something worse than the devil, that of Larry Cohen Question: The Winged Serpentabout a dragon that terrorizes Manhattan, Dario Argento’s hellTobe Hooper’s The FunhousePaul Schrader’s cat peopleMichael Mann’s the keepand a dozen other great horror movies from the 80s.
