Günther Jauch has been leading the RTL annual overview “People, Pictures, Emotions” for 25 years. But in 2022 he will hand over the moderation of the show. He is succeeded by a duo: his old buddy Thomas Gottschalk – and ex-Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was once the shooting star of German politics. In 2009, at the age of 37, he became Federal Minister of the Economy and soon after became head of the Ministry of Defense. But a plagiarism scandal surrounding his thesis in 2011 put an end to all the political ambitions of the CSU politician. He resigns and bids farewell to the political scene.

More than ten years later, zu Guttenberg is celebrating its comeback. But not in politics, but on TV. RTL announced in June that the broadcaster is working on two 90-minute docutainment programs for RTL+ together with the ex-minister. But that is not the only task that the now 50-year-old takes on in this collaboration.

Zu Guttenberg will also “form a special duo for a special show” together with Thomas Gottschalk, RTL now says. For example, the two would lead together this year via the RTL annual overview “People, Images, Emotions”. The broadcast is scheduled for RTL on December 11 at 8:15 PM (can also be seen on RTL+).

Documentary about Vladimir Putin

“Entertainment legend Gottschalk and former Federal Minister zu Guttenberg represent the wide range of topics the show addresses, from entertainment to society and world politics,” RTL explains the decision. “People, Pictures, Emotions” was first broadcast in 1996. Since then, the review has always been presented by Günther Jauch. Last year, however, he announced that he was giving up moderation after 25 years.

The first of the two docutainment productions that zu Guttenberg is working on for RTL+ also deals with the power politics of Russian President Vladimir Putin and its backgrounds and consequences. Zu Guttenberg is said to have conducted numerous interviews with top-level interlocutors in countries such as the US, Ukraine, England and Germany.
