PANAMA (AP) — Leonardo Reginatto drove in two runs in the fifth inning to break a tie and Brazil beat Nicaragua 4-1 on Saturday for their second win and meet Panama, who later beat Argentina 11-0, to the pass to the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

The clash between Brazilians and Panamanians will take place on Tuesday. Two teams who met in 2012 also meet again in Panama in a 2013 El Clasico eliminator, which Brazil won and saw them qualify for the tournament for the first time against a rival with more baseball pedigree.

The second and last passage is settled on Wednesday.

In the day’s first game, veteran third baseman Reginatto, who was part of the Brazil team that qualified in 2012, beat his unstoppable two-run RBI after Nicaraguan catcher Melvin Novoa hit a solo home run that leveled the score at 1-1 equalized in the loss of the third in the game played at Rod Carew Stadium in the Panamanian capital.

Reginatto went 3-on-3 with both RBIs. Right-hander Felipe Sales Natel clinched the win by covering 4 and a third innings in which he conceded three hits and a run. Juan Carlos Ramírez (0-1), a right-handed pitcher for the Tomateros de Culiacán, accepted the loss.

In the background, Panama beat Argentina, who are playing their first draw, 11-0 in seven straight games. The South American team had just defeated Pakistan and will face New Zealand (0-1) on Sunday to continue with a win. Nicaragua (0-1) meets Pakistan (0-1).

Humberto Mejía threw four shutout innings and allowed two hits to earn the win. Left-hander Guido Monis lost (0:1). José Ramos excelled on offense, hitting 2-3, with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Great Britain and the Czech Republic advanced in another duel recently settled in Germany.
