There’s a lot that can be said about UFC staple Bobby Green, but what you can’t say is that he’s a liar.

Green has been a mainstay on the UFC roster since 2013 and has faced the best the sport has to offer in its ever-deep 155-pound division. Some of his notable past opponents include Dustin Poirier, Edson Barbosa, and most recently a fight against Islam Makhachev, and while he doesn’t always win those fights, he’s never someone to be taken lightly.

Bobby Green messed up

It’s now been 7 months since his last fight, with fans wondering when Bobby Green might set foot in the Octagon again. Unfortunately, it looks like it will probably be a while before that happens, according to a message he made to his instagram.

In a video that lasted more than half an hour, Green explained that he was informed of the failure of a drug test by USADA, after discovering the substance DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone, or simply androsterone), an endogenous steroid hormone precursor. ‘King’ Bobby revealed that this was due to him taking what he believed to be a natural supplement from Walmart, not understanding that it was on the banned substances list, and that he had no not intending to take anything that wasn’t allowed, which is why he’s so candid about the situation.

“I’m crushed. I think to myself, what the fuck? I had no idea what I was doing, that it was wrong, that there were benefits to what I was doing…I would never try to lie,” Green said (h/t MMAMania). “I am against PEDs. I would never even think about those things. I never even looked at the site to find out what is prohibited and what is not. I don’t care because I don’t pay attention.

It’s clear from the expression on his face that Green is disappointed and upset at the trouble he’s caused himself by taking this banned substance. It’s unclear what USADA will choose to do, but it’s possible he could face a two-year sanction, dating back to the day he failed the test.

There have been instances where USADA has shown mercy to fighters and been lenient in their punishments. Time will tell whether or not that will be the case for Bobby Green.
