Beneil Darius doesn’t think Michael Chandler is a good fit for a title shot and said it would be a clown show if he did.
Given his current position in the UFC, Dariush wonders why Chandler is even considering considering himself a preferable contender for a championship. Chandler responded in a different way to The MMA Hour that a win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 should be enough to justify him. Although, later Dariush showed his disagreement with the statement.
Recently, during a chat with Helen Yee Sports, Dariush said: “Honestly I think he’s just trying to get his name out there, I don’t think that’s true. But if it happens, man, I will – it’s basically a clown show. What? The guy just got the title shot and lost and then lost again. So it doesn’t make sense. After beating Gamrot, I don’t think there’s anyone who can get ahead of me. We’ll see what happens. I think it would be a joke if he got a title shot.
Although Chandler daydreams and thinks a win over Poirier will do, and will be enough to earn the next crack at the 155-pound crown, despite going 2-2 under the UFC banner.
Dariush later said he thought Chandler could perform much better if he focused on playing rather than preparing for fights. He loses his losses in the UFC because he gives up his expertise and becomes overconfident. Also, he claimed that he could be undefeated if he had a better mindset, but he is so focused on fun and excitement.
